The Illinois Currency Exchange Charitable Foundation (“ICECF”) joined forces with Operation Homefront of Illinois (“OH-Illinois”) to help over 3000 military dependent children throughout Illinois. The ICECF participated in five distribution events in different parts of the state. This new partnership continues the growth of the Back To School Brigade™ program and targets children of military families in all branches of the armed forces including the National Guard.
One of Operation Homefront’s flagship programs is the Back To School Brigade™, which distributes sturdy backpacks brimming with age-appropriate school supplies to military kids. While their thoughts are focused upon summer fun at the moment, OH-Illinois is happy to announce a partnership with another great organization that cares deeply about the welfare of children in our state.
This collaboration with the ICECF’s Back 2 School program means that the Back To School Brigade™ is now part of the largest school supply distribution program in Illinois. In 2012, ICECF distributed over half-a-million school supplies to almost 20,000 underprivileged children. In 2013 the partnership will increase those numbers to 750,000 school supplies, which will be given to more than 25,000 youth.
The program is a year round effort beginning with a kickoff luncheon on Wednesday, June 12th, in Chicago. Operation Homefront of Illinois Executive Director James Michael will introduce the partnership to the public, and to ICECF’s many supporters.
There are eight school supply distribution events in August, including a large distribution event to nearly 25,000 students in Chicago on Aug. 13. Seven events are done in conjunction with Operation Homefront Illinois (to benefit military families) at National Guard Armories around the state, including North Riverside, Springfield, Belleville, Rock Island, Gurnee and Peoria.
