Operation Homefront awarded a newly-built mortgage-free custom home from Wade Jurney Homes to Gary and Shay Mason in Salisbury, North Carolina. The three-bedroom home will provide Gary, his wife Shay, and family enough room to grow as a family and call this new home their own.
Gary and Shay have four children. The two oldest sons are attending college. Joshua will be graduating from high school in two years and Jessy, their daughter, enjoys being home schooled. After the Masons graduated from Operation Homefront’s Village program and attended the required number of support groups, workshops, and financial counselling sessions, Gary applied for a home through Operation Homefront’s Homes on the Homefront program.
“What this home does for my family is relieve the stress that has burdened us,” said Gary. “We have not felt home in a very long time because every three or four years we are constantly moving and my children didn’t have a place to call home.”
“We would like to say that Operation Homefront and Wade Jurney Homes have been a major blessing to me and my family,” added Gary. “If they didn’t step in when they did we would have struggled majorly. It gives us hope and the opportunity to build a family with hopes to transition successfully.”
Gary’s future plans are to grow their family production business focusing on assistance to veterans and military families and become home owners. Shay recently finished her graduate certificate in business administration as a fellow through a veterans program at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies. She recently launched a YouTube channel ‘Thriving on the Homefront,’ offering tips for spouses for deployed service members.
“Operation Homefront is honored to have selected Army Captain Gary Mason for a newly-built, mortgage-free home donated by Wade Jurney Homes,” said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., president and CEO of Operation Homefront. “An incredible partner, the entire Wade Jurney Homes team is fully committed to helping us get the Mason family, and other deserving military families, on a path to thrive, not simply struggle to get by, in the communities they have worked so hard to protect."
The Homes on the Homefront program began in 2012. Since inception, Operation Homefront has placed more than 550 veterans and their families in mortgage-free homes. Wade Jurney Homes is the second home builder to join the program.
